I love I DO, I DO. I agree that the early period that the original STAGING was set in is old fashionned. I directed in 1990 in MONTREAL a french production of the show and we changed the date of the wedding. MICHEAL and AGNES got married in 1948 to end up in 1990. IT worked because the folks in the audience could see themselves in the couple on tthe stage and some of the numbers worked even better, namely : What is a woman?

I also think that the show could work with two couples, living side by side in two different bedrooms with their four posters separated by a wall. We tried it for a reading and it was surprising to see and hear the different colors each couple reacted to the same lyrics.
