This was the first production of DB I have ever seen where the audience rolled with laughter half the time. I found that the actors were directed to say their lines as if the play had been translated badly from the Polish. No one sounded like a human being - they sounded like semi-automatons. Poor Imelda Staunton had to some truly risible blocking moves as well. I have seen 3 great productions of this play; this one, was for me, dismal, uninvolving, without a moment of stage truth. The stage was full of wonderful actors whom I admire. So I lay it at the feet of James MacDonald.
