RE:Extremely Talented Cast - 5:16PM on 11/02/2011
Having seen this play in numerous cities, I knew the script & dialogue. A friend had told me of young man playing Peck, and how talented he was, so I decided to check it out. After 4 minutes of watching I realized there was ALOT of talent in this cast. The hour & 1/2 flew by and I felt as if I had never seen this play before. Jenn Swirtz & Sigrid Owen did a great job as Caitlin & Dora. Blake Sheldon who played Peck, was intriguing, captivating & just riddled with talent. He gave me a new outlook on how Peck SHOULD be played. I would HIGHLY recommend this play to anyone especially directors or agents looking for AMAZING talent!

A Show Well Done - 1:10AM on 11/16/2011
I have seen one other production of "The Storytelling Ability Of A Boy" and I have to say that the L.A. production far surpasses the other. I was astounded to find out that this is Meegan McCauleys directorial debut. Her talent as a director shone through as she managed to capture so many subtleties and nuances
that I never even considered when I saw this play the first time around. Credit must also be given to the cast as they each brilliantly executed the roles of Peck, Dora, and Caitlin. Blake Sheldon brought a raw quality to the role of Peck that drew me even further into the story than I had ever been. Sigrid Owen showed us that Dora can actually be lovable. When she said "you dont like me" to Caitlin, my heart broke right then and there. For the first time, I saw Dora as a wounded soul who tries to make up for it by putting up a facade of toughness. Ms. Owen had me thinking, "wow, now I understand why Dora is the way she is." She and Mr. Sheldon had a genuine chemistry that

A Show Well Done...continued - 1:34AM on 11/16/2011
...seemed absolutely effortless. I can only imagine that the two are truly good friends. And finally, Jenn Swirtz turned out to be the unexpected star of the show. She took my breath away as teacher-turned-friend, Caitlin Skreeting. I never cared much for the role of Caitlin, but Ms. Swirtz hooked me early with her subtle smirks and "restrained hostility." I felt her inner struggle and by the time she revealed why her "heart is wrecked," my heart was breaking for a second time in 80 minutes as tears ran down my cheeks along with Ms. Swirtz.
The only downside of this production is that it only had a 4-week run in a small black box theatre. It deserves a 3-month run at The Ahmanson. Talented cast, excellent directing, and outstanding lighting and sound design...all the things needed to make a spectacular show. I would say "go see it," but it has already closed. So, all I will say is "Encore!"
