I saw the show at a late preview. Interesting, I see some critics liked it, though most agreed with me that its not good. Blunt, repetitive choreography, generic score. one dimensional characters, a tacked on love story about which we just dont care, and seemingly neither do the two involved in it. Its lavish, expensive, and offers little reason the cheer, except for the fine cast, who give it their all. I wish them all better luck next time.

Big cast, big orchestra, lots of dancing dont make a show. This one comes up short in all departments except most leading players who are good.
It aint no Oliver!, Annie or Billy Elliot though it tries hard.

I was there at opening night and the audience was filled with cast members families and friends as well as Disney promoters. Applause sounded like it was cued with cards during scenes or like parents when their kid came on in a talent show. The talent was indeed substantial, but the book, the characters, the industrial beam scenery, and the generic music were second class despite the Disney provence. Choral songs lack depth and sounded like retro boy band harmonies without the guitars. One dimensional dynamics loud were tiresome. I cant recall a melody a day later. A hokey, throw away Burlesque scene is thrown in out of nowhere for the straight men in the audience to see some leg from an otherwise male dominated cast. The non musical scenes were trite and dull and filled with socialistic platitudes and melodramatic angst. The choreography was ironically really dull despite the hyperactive dancing and gymnastic leaps. Each scene looked just like the last.
